Instagram account @uzbekgallery takes its followers on a tour of Uzbekistan through archive photographs dating back to end of the 19th century all the way to the 1980s. The pictures depict everyday working and family life, Uzbekistan’s distinctive ancient architecture, and Soviet propaganda.

Set up by cultural historian Kiiyha Gray, the account is the result of the curator’s postgraduate thesis, which focuses on 1930s and 1940s Uzbekistan.

The account is particularly great at showing heartwarming moments of joy captured on camera. Don’t you wish you were the guy on top of the pile of freshly picked cotton?
