The Moscow Patriarchate of the Russian Orthodox Church has announced new plans to build a 1000-person capacity cathedral in the campus of Moscow State University.

The news, announced on Tuesday, revealed that the grand building of the new Saints Cyryl and Methodius Cathedral will feature more than a dozen ornate blue and gold domes with a pink facade and a 46-metre bell tower.

Moscow State University is one of Russia’s oldest and most important institutions, with around 45,000 students and a campus spread across Moscow. The new cathedral, which has not yet had its completion date announced, is designed to be predominantly used by students and staff.

The new Saints Cyril and Methodius cathedral is the design of architect Dmitry Pshenichnikov, whose previous work includes Terminal D at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport.
