No Mask vs No Musk: artist Dan Perjovschi takes you on a virtual tour of his show in New York

Romanian artist Dan Perjovschi is hosting a virtual tour of his exhibition at the Jane Lombard gallery in New York on 2 December at 5pm GMT.

Called The Nightmare It Is / The Nightmare It Was, the show includes drawings on the US presidential election and the coronavirus pandemic.

One creative work sees two people facing each other, with protest signs saying “No Mask” versus “No Musk”. Another drawing shows dozens of people crowding together behind one mask next to the words “We are in this together.”

Perjovschi’s art has gained popularity thanks to his sharp, sarcastic, and quick takes on current affairs. Despite looking raw and spontaneous, his drawings take a lot of drafts, the artist admits. He has previously exhibited work at the MoMA in New York, Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Venice Biennale, and other prestigious galleries and shows.

In addition to his exhibition at the Jane Lombard gallery, Perjovschi is one of 20 artists whose works have been made into billboards, as part of the initiative Ministry of Truth: 1984/2020. “Moron, and on, and on,” says the billboard with the artist’s work, located at 43rd Road and 11th St. in Long Island City.
