A travelling photography show dedicated to emerging talent from around the world has opened at Rosphoto gallery in St Petersburg. The exhibition, reGeneration 2, features the work of 80 emerging artists from different cities across North America, Europe and Asia. The selected photographers include Sasha Rudensky, a Russian-born, New York-based photographer who currently works at Wesleyan University.

His project, Remains, was chosen from more than 700 submissions. The series of images capture the socio-political changes that have occurred in the former Soviet states since the collapse of communism, focusing on the more intimate details of daily life such as abandoned playgrounds and dilapidated buildings. “My work concentrates on the common experience that at one point united the Soviet republics into a nation, and now unites them in the common experience of disintegration,” Rudensky said in an interview with Photo-Eye, an online photography magazine.

reGeneration 2 exhibits the work of 80 emerging artists, most of whom are under the age of 30, from 30 different countries and 120 of the world’s best photography schools. It also covers a range of different formats from digital to film photography as well as a variety of themes such as globalisation, the urban environment, memory and identity.

The show follows the success of Regeneration: 50 Photographers of Tomorrow 2005-2025, an exhibition launched in 2005. Since its inception, curators William Ewing and Nathalie Herschdorfer have discovered numerous photographers including Pieter Hugo from South Africa, Idris Khan from the UK, Angela Strassheim from the US and Natalie Czech from Germany. The exhibition has since travelled to locations around the world.
