Moscow exhibition captures fragility of adolescence

Moscow exhibition captures fragility of adolescence

22 August 2013

A new exhibition by Krasnodar-born photographer Margo Ovcharenko looks at the transition from childhood to adulthood through a series of intimate portraits. Furious LIke a Child at the pop/off/art gallery in Moscow both reflects on how beauty is perceived in contemporary Russia and explores traditional gender roles. Ovcharenko draws on her childhood memories to make a more universal comment on the condition of women in Russia. Her photos reflect the fragility of her subjects many of whom she finds via social media sites such as Facebook.

Ovcharenko’s work has been showcased around the world in a number of group exhibitions including reGeneration2: Tomorrow’s Photographers Today in Lausanne, Aperture Foundation, Recontres d’Arles, Houston FotoFest Biennale, Athens Photo Festival. The current exhibition runs from 6 September to 20 October at pop/off/art gallery in Moscow.
