Iconic Russian artworks get Simpsons makeover

5 November 2013

When a group of Russian art students were told to re-think the history of Russian painting, they decided to make over a number of masterpieces in the style of The Simpsons. The iconic paintings, re-drawn by students at the Moscow British Higher School of Art and Design, have been turned into cartoons featuring characters in The Simpsons’ signature yellow, with a few familiar faces in the mix. Santa’s Little Helper replaces the dog in Fedor Reshetnikov’s Low Marks Again (1952) while Mr Burns pops up in Vasili Pukirev’s painting, The Unequal Marriage (1862) about the wedding of an elderly high-ranking official to a young and forlorn-looking girl.
