The Moscow government has announced plans to create vehicle-free zones in a number of towns in the region modelled on Arbat Street, a kilometre-long pedestrian road in the capital’s historic centre. The project will enlist the help of local architects to help to improve the apperance of regional towns with the addition of pedestrian zones in city centres, close to parks or on riverbanks. The new areas will also benefit from the addition of greenery and benches.
