London Fashion Week to screen Russian fashion film series

A group of 13 Russian fashion designers will be presenting a series of films at London’s Strand Events Space next week — part of Dressing the Screen, a series workhops and screenings at London Fashion Week emphasising importance of fashion film in the digital age.

The designers include newer talents such as Asiya Bareeva; Artur Lomakin and Polina P, the duo behind Forget Me Not/Chaos Reigns; Sasha Wider; minimalist Panika Derevya; and Lesya Paramonova, founder of LES, alongside more experienced figures such as Viva Vox and Dmitry Loginov.

The films were produced under the guidance of UK filmmakers Kathryn Ferguson, Grace Ladoja, Alex Turvey and Marie Shuller of SHOWstudio, a pioneering digitial platform for fashion film, with backing from the British Council Russia.

The films, which range from moving lookbooks to narrative shorts, are a result of a workshop which took place in Moscow in December with the aim of engaging the best Russian designers in fashion film, a rapidly developing medium for fashion communication in the digital age. Fashion video is considered to have great commercial potential, being cheap to produce compared to traditional catwalk shows and easy to transmit globally. The event, New Russian Fashion Film, will take place at 180 The Strand Events Space on 18 February as part of London Fashion Week and International Fashion Showcase.
