Hungarian novelist and screenwriter László Krasznahorkai is one of ten writers to have been nominated for the 2015 Man Booker prize. Until recently, the reach of most of Krasznahorkai’s works was mainly limited to audiences in Hungary and Germany, however recent English translations of a number of his most popular works has propelled Krasznahorkai onto the international literary scene.

Founded in 2005, the Man Booker prize is awarded to a living author every two years, and is given on the basis of their entire literary career. Other nominees for this year’s prize include Ibrahim al-Koni (Libya), Mia Couto (Mozambique) and Amitav Ghosh (India).

Krasznahorkai has won awards including the Vilenica Prize and Soros Foundation Prize, and became Laureate of the Hungarian Republic in 2002.

The winner of this year’s prize will by announced at the V&A museum in London on 19 May.
