Moscow authorities give go ahead to build Russian Disneyland

12 May 2015

Moscow authorities have approved the construction of a Disney-style children’s amusement park to be built in the city’s southeastern Nagatinskaya Poyma park, the Moscow Mayor’s office announced yesterday. The amusement park, which will cover over 290,000 square metres, will include an indoor theme park operated by US animation studio DreamWorks, a second park operated by Russian animator Soyuzmultfilm, as well as themed cafes, a multiplex cinema and other amenities.

In addition to the amusement park, much of the redeveloped space will become a public park, and will include a concert hall, a hotel complex and a children’s sailing school, with a pedestrianised path along the Moscow River.

“Now the investor is finalising the concept of the amusement park and wants to begin work this summer. The site should be fully built within three years,” said Deputy Mayor for urban policy and construction Marat Khusnullin.
