A new novel by Russian post-modernist author Victor Pelevin will come out in September, publishing house Eksmo has announced.

The book is titled Smotritel, which might be rendered in English as The Warden or The Caretaker, and will be released in two volumes.

The genre of the novel is described as “a somersault of thought”, a phrase used by American writer Carlos Castaneda in his book The Power of Silence, but its theme is as yet unknown. According to a statement by Eksmo, “what the novel is about really depends on the reader and their choices”. The book’s cover has yet to be released.

Pelevin is one of the most well-known and decorated contemporary Russian writers. His most famous works include the novels Omon Ra, Chapayev and Void and Generation P. Known for his multi-layered post-modernist texts, which combine elements of pop culture, science fiction and esoteric philosophies, Pelevin has been the recipient of multiple literary awards, including the Russian Little Booker Prize (1993) and the Russian National Bestseller (2004).
