Fashion designers from a range of countries are set to take part in the “Nomad style” competition as part of the World Festival of Epics of the Peoples of the World, which will take place from 3 to 7 September in the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek.
Competitors will be marked not only for the beauty of their designs, but also for their presentation of the traditions of nomadic culture.
“The designers and models will present national costumes and accessories to the jury and audience, highlighting the particularities of nomadic life, and demonstrating their creative achievements. Participants will present their own collections, comprising between three and five outfits,” read a press statement from the Kyrgyz Ministry of Culture.
Prizes will be awarded in four categories: ethnic style, avant-garde, accessories, and design sketch.
The competition will take place at the Kyrgyz Kochu ethnographic village, where a special catwalk will be installed, and is open to both professional and amateur designers from around the world.
The World Festival of Epics of the Peoples of the World is a celebration of folk tales and particularly of the oral tradition, featuring scholars, storytellers, epic narrators, and throat singers.
