Moscow mayor launches Instagram account

Mr Sobyanin’s first Instagram post, reading: “I often see interesting photos. I’ll share mine – a view of Moscow, taken today from the window of my office.”

Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin has launched his own official Instagram account, according to his press-secretary Gulnara Penkova.

“This is an official, verified account — the mayor will run it himself,” Ms Penkova stated.

So far, Mr Sobyanin has only uploaded a photo of the view of Moscow from his office.

“I hope that this will create an additional channel of communication with Muscovites,” he stated previously when defending his use of social media on his VKontakte page.

Mr Sobyanin joins a host of other Russian political figures and celebrities who have taken to using social media.
