A day of ethnographic cinema is set to take place on 1 November in the Russian capital, as part of the Russian Geographical Society Festival.

In an interview with RIA Novosti, Valery Tishkov, chairman of the ethnographic commission of the Russian Geographical Society, stated that the day of ethnographic film will showcase the “best films from Russia” and that children will have the opportunity to see how certain items traditional to particular groups in Russia are made, as well as being able to try their hand at crafts.

Each zone of the festival, which will be held at the Central House of Artists, will have exhibits devoted to the various peoples of Russia.

The Russian Geographical Society, based in St Petersburg, is one of the oldest geographical societies in the world. It works to promote exploration and geography with research programs in such fields as oceanography and ethnography. Information about the festival can be found on the Society’s website.
