The Russian taxi company Yandex.Taxi has launched a new service, offering passengers the opportunity to escape into an alternate reality while travelling.

The project, entitled “taxitainment”, allows customers to travel through tropical jungles with the help of Fibrum virtual reality headsets. The free service is being rolled out across 50 cars in the cities of Moscow and St Petersburg.

In order to be in with a chance of enjoying “taxitainment”, customers must call a taxi on the “Comfort” tariff, rather than the “Economy” tariff. At present it is not possible to specifically request a car with “taxitainment”.

According to a statement by Yandex.Taxi, this development represents only the beginning of their plans for entertainment in their taxis.

Yandex.Taxi is a Russian website and smartphone application that allows customers to book a taxi online.
