Minsk to host Libraries at Night event

The Belarusian capital, Minsk, will host the Libraries at Night festival tomorrow evening.

Inspired by the success of the the Museums at Night festival, in which museums around the city stay open late into the night, the Libraries at Night event will see two of Minsk’s most prominent libraries open to visitors and hosting a special evening programme.

The Pushkin library, the oldest municipal library, and the library of the Belarusian National Technical University will see guests, including well-known public figures, reading out extracts from their favorite books in Belarusian as well as foreign literature translated into Belarusian.

Forming part of the Velcom Smartfilm festival, the Libraries at Night festival looks to bring together Belarusian language, literature and cinema. To this end, the theme of this year’s festival is book trailers and presentation videos, and visitors will be able to take part in a masterclass on filming with a smartphone, featuring Belarusian filmmakers and screenwriters. The Pushkin library will also host the screening of the best films from previous Velcom Smartfilm festivals.
