Architecture and urban planning consultants KB Strelka have won a competition to complete a large-scale beautification project in the Russian capital.

The project will take place within the framework of the government’s tourism and recreation development programme, and will include the improvement of parks, waterside recreational areas, courtyards, squares and common spaces close to metro stations. It is expected that the initiative will affect one fifth of Moscow’s territory.

Together with both Russian and international organisations, including Moscow’s Higher School of Economics, KB Strelka will develop standards for the enhancement of facilities and engage in work to improve the urban environment. The cost of the project, which is set to be implemented in 2017, is estimated at 890.6 million rubles (approx. US$13,154,000). Work on the project, entitled “The development of the recreation and tourism industry”, will last until 2018.
