Peruse a collection of rare Russian avant-garde book covers

7 June 2016

The digital archive of Moscow’s State Public Historical Library is rife with rare Russian books on specialist topics such as genealogy and geography. It’s also home to the finest examples of Cubo-Futurism in graphic design, including book covers attributed to avant-garde figures such as Kazimir Malevich and Alexander Rodchenko.

Russian Cubo-Futurism emerged between 1913 and 1915, as Cubism and Futurism developed in western Europe. These covers perfectly reflects the marriage between the two movements in the way that simple type appears spontaneously on the page.
