Meet Georgia’s only country star

23 June 2016

It can be a lonely life for Shota Adamashvili, as Georgia’s lone country music star.

Surely not? We’re talking here not about the American state, known for its country credentials, but the post-Soviet republic situated in the Caucasus.

Shota, who comes from a small town called Bolnisi, could surely be mistaken for an American with his cowboy hat and Southern accent, which he gained when teaching himself English from country songs.

The BBC’s World Service recently ran a feature on Shota — could his rising fame inspire a new generation of Georgian country stars?
