Disney to restart production in Russia with fantasy feature Last Hero

The Walt Disney Company has announced that its first release since restarting local production in Russia will be Last Hero, a fairy tale feature film.

According to Marina Zhigalova-Ozkan, CEO of Disney Russia, the film will be jointly produced by Disney and Yellow, Black & White, a leading Russian studio. It is set to be special-effects driven, with responsibility for funding shared between the two production companies.

“The importance of this film for the company in consistent with our plans to continue the tradition of filming Russian fairy tales. We are planning to use the most advanced technologies and the best filmmakers and actors of different generations, which should help to adapt Russian fairy tales to a modern cinematic language,” Ms Zhigalova-Ozkan stated.

Disney has only produced one film in Russia – The Book Of Masters (2009). With a production budget of $8m, the film grossed $10.8m in Russia and was sold to 70 countries.
