A footwear company in Bosnia has pledged to support Melania Trump, wife of US presidential candidate Donald Trump, with two pairs of specially made shoes.
Marinko Umičević, technical director at the Bema factory in Republika Srpska, the Serb-dominated entity in Bosnia, told local paper Nezavisne novine that the initiative was “motivated by patriotic reasons”.
The shoes are set to be supportive in more ways than one, with the first pair being lined with memory foam so that “Melania can walk across America”. The second are designed with style in mind – a leather pair of high heels to see Ms Trump “victoriously walk into the White House”.
Mr Umičević hopes that the firm’s gift will remind Ms Trump, who grew up in Slovenia, of her roots.
“These shoes are from the Balkans, where she grew up,” he said in a statement to the Blic tabloid, adding that he hoped the potential first lady would “imbue US politics with a bit of Balkan mentality, and bring kindness and soul to it”.
