New East filmmakers have dominated the nominations for the Foreign Narrative category of the 2016 Student Academy Awards, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ annual competition for college and university filmmakers.

The New East films in the running are Flowers by Judita Gamulin from Croatia, Czech filmmaker Ondřej Hudeček’s Peacock, Tenants by Klara Kochańska of Poland and Beautiful Figure from Hungarian director Hajni Kis. They are joined by works by film students from Germany and Norway.

Since 1981 the Student Academy Awards has given a separate award to a student filmmaker from outside the United States.
