Running track or runway? Russia’s Olympics kit is in vogue

10 August 2016

Forget for a second the immense scandal surrounding Russia at the Olympics this year and take a look at the team’s kit – their uniform could have come straight from the catwalk.

Although the kit was designed by Russian sports and leisure label Bosco, who have been the brand behind Russian Olympics uniforms since the 2002 winter games in Salt Lake City, it has not gone unnoticed that it bears a striking resemblance to the work of one of Russia’s hottest fashion talents – Gosha Rubchinskiy.

The designer’s last two collections are full of sports gear, with many items featuring Cyrillic script akin to that seen on the team’s jackets.

Whether Bosco did take inspiration from Rubchinskiy’s designs and consciously decided to follow suit, we don’t know. But one thing is sure – sport and style can go hand in hand.
