Discover Polish avant-garde illustrator and designer Franciszka Themerson in London

19 October 2016

Next month London’s l’étrangère gallery will launch Franciszka Themerson: Lines and Thoughts, a new solo exhibition of paintings, drawings and calligrammes by Polish avant-garde artist Franciszka Themerson (d.1988).

Franciszka and her husband Stefan Themerson were creative collaborators and counted among the most important experimental filmmakers in pre-war Poland. Franciszka’s individual work, however, centered on painting, theatre sets and costume design.

The upcoming exhibition at l’étrangère will showcase the breadth of her work, permeated with the influence of storytelling and literature sources, with Dada, Lewis Carroll and Edward Lear especially visible in her line drawings.

Franciszka Themerson: Lines and Thoughts will take place from 4 November – 16 December at l’étrangère in central London. More information can be found here.
