Pop concert sparks protests in Kiev

18 November 2016

Clashes broke out on Wednesday night in Kiev, as crowds gathered before a concert by Ukrainian pop duo Potap & Nastya to protest against their performances in Russia.

Between 30 and 50 people congregated near the Palace Ukraina concert hall to attempt to prevent fans from getting inside, throwing eggs and tomatoes in addition to chanting. Five people were arrested and two people, including a child, were injured.

According to some media reports, the protesters were activists from the nationalist party Svoboda, while other sources claim they were part of the Sokol nationalist organisation.

Potap & Nastya concerts were also recently disrupted in the cities of Khmelnytskyi and Chernihiv.
