Chelyabinsk cribs: who needs bricks when you can build a house of champagne bottles?

17 February 2017

One family from the Chelyabinsk region, located east of the Urals in southern Russia, has decided to create a rather unusual memorial to a beloved relative — a house made of champagne bottles. 12,000 to be precise.

According to news service Current Time, the unusual structure is dedicated to Eldar Ilchibaev, who first came up with the idea for the wine-inspired home but tragically died in 2007 before he was able to complete the project.

The family first built a timber frame, then overlaid it with champagne bottles collected from their village or gained in exchange for beer and vodka bottles in Chelyabinsk.
