Meet the award-winning Lithuanian illustrator, Akvile Magicdust

20 June 2017

Lithuanian illustrator Akvile Magicdust (aka Akvile Miseviciute), has won this year’s East London Comic Arts Festival x WeTransfer award.

Akvile is best known for her weekly comic on Vice, named Lucy the confused girl which documents the adventures and misadventures of the “sassy” protagonist, with an alien and a tiger in tow. Rob Anderson, the editor-in-chief of WeTransfer described her work as touching “on big themes in a very lighthearted way”, highlighting its social relevance as well as its comic richness.

East London Comic Arts Festival x WeTransfer award was set up to help enable artists see a project come to life by providing the means to realise their work, through a grant of £3,500 as well as showcasing the final edit at ELCAF 2018. This is the second year of the award, with Nous Vous member Nicholas Burrows winning in 2016. His resulting book The Elephant Hotel was launched at this year’s event.

We await to see what this groundbreaking Lithuanian artist has to showcase at next year’s ELCAF exhibition, but in the meantime click here to see the full portfolio.
