From the roof of the Winter Palace, Russian Navy Day was almost magical

If anyone can make Russian Navy Day seem artistic and romantic, it’s the State Hermitage Museum.

The world-renowned museum of art and culture published a video to mark Russian Navy Day on its Instagram page, shot from the roof of the Winter Palace. The time-lapse video shows naval ships cruising along the Neva River and under the Palace Bridge, which is drawn to let the vessels pass through, beneath a pink-hued sky.

A national holiday, Russian Navy Day normally takes place on the last Sunday of July. In addition to the annual large-scale parade in St Petersburg and other similar events in locations throughout the country where the Russian Navy has a presence, this year Russia put on its first military parade at its Tartus base in Syria.
