Ethan Hawke to be honoured at inaugural American Independent Film Festival in Bucharest

1 September 2017

The inaugural edition of Romania’s American Independent Film Festival will take place in Bucharest this September, featuring Ethan Hawke as its special guest.

The festival will present a series of independent American productions and art-house films from 15-21 September at Cinema PRO and Cinemateca Eforie in the Romanian capital. The festival is run by Cinemascop, renowned organiser of festivals including Les Films de Cannes à Bucarest and the Audience Award Film Festival.

This year’s special guest is Boyhood star Ethan Hawke, who will attend the festival and take part in talks with the audience. Hawke’s two most recent films Maudie (where he stars alongside Sally Hawkins) and Born to be Blue (a biographical drama on trumpeter Chet Baker) will be shown in Romania for the first time, while Richard Linklater’s critically acclaimed Boyhood and Before Midnight are also scheduled to take place during the week.

A four-time Oscar nominee, Hawke has also just finished work on Paul Schrader’s political thriller First Reformed which premiered at this year’s Venice International Film Festival.
