Back to the USSR: Barbie goes Soviet in new photoshoot

She’s a fashion icon who has travelled the globe in her long career as an astronaut, vet, rock star, mermaid and aerobics instructor.

But thanks to Russian artist Lara Vychuzhanina, Barbie is headed to new territory and an embrace of Soviet chic.

In Vychuzhanina’s shots, the iconic doll lounges in a communal kitchen, surrounded by doll-sized Soviet staples. All of the items, including miniature copies of Pravda newspaper and Stolichnaya vodka, were handmade by the artist herself. Barbie’s on-off boyfriend Ken also makes an appearance, as does the couple’s cat.
