Russians recreate modern masterpieces to celebrate the art of 1917

19 December 2017

The year 2017 might be almost over, but Russians are taking one last chance to celebrate the centenary of the country’s revolutionary artwork.

The Tretyakov Gallery is challenging the internet to recreate their favourite artwork from 1917 in honour of their latest exhibition. The event includes 120 paintings and sculptures from Russia’s revolutionary year, with works from the collections of the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, and museums in Pskov, Perm, Yekaterinburg, Krasnodar, Rostov, and Belarus.

Plenty of entries are already in — including a few from intrepid art fans who have recreated their own favourite pre-revolutionary pieces.

The gallery will select a winner from entries posted on Vkontakte along with the hashtag #некто1917 before 25 December.
