European Film Promotion (EFP) have named two top actors from the New East among their 10 “shooting stars” for 2018.
Hungary’s Réka Tenki and Georgia’s Irakli Kvirikadze will travel to the Berlin International Film Festival in February to meet top industry insiders as part of the prestigious prize.
Tenki’s established body of work includes The Door and On Body and Soul, the winner of 2017’s Golden Bear award at Berlin. Tbilisi-born newcomer Kvirikadze also wowed the jury with his performance in this year’s Georgian drama, Hostages.
Other winners on the EFP’s list include 23-year-old Norwegian actress Eili Harboe, Swedish performer Alba August, 18-year-old Swiss actress Luna Wedler, and the UK’s Michaela Coel, already known for her BAFTA-winning series Chewing Gum.
Italian Matilda De Angelis, Dutch actor Jonas Smulders, Belgium’s Matteo Simoni and Germany’s Franz Rogowski also featured on the list.
The group will take part in special profile-boosting workshops, which have already benefited past winners such as Daniel Craig, Rachel Weisz and Alicia Vikander.
