Russian Railways has built a church in a train wagon – and it’s yours to rent

If you’ve taken a train journey in Russia in the past decade, then you’ve probably sampled the cosy camaraderie of third class travel otherwise known as platskart.

What you probably didn’t get to see was the compact spiritual luxury of Russia’s first rail-bound church. The carriage allows Orthodox passengers the chance to worship during long cross-country journeys, with an altar, iconstasis, and a small religious library.
