If you’ve ever landed in a confusing foreign country, you’ll know there’s no better way to find your feet than a 90-minute musical theatre experience. Or at least that’s the theory behind Welcome to Georgia: The Musical, premiering at Tbilisi’s Vaso Abashidze Music and Drama Theater this week.

Created with foreign tourists in mind, the English-language show provides a short introduction to Georgian history, culture, traditions and wine.

The show — which features more than 10 musical numbers in its 90-minute runtime — centres on a Georgian man and his French girlfriend visiting family in the Kakheti region. Traditional dancing, singing and music are all on offer, with an 18-strong cast performing the country’s best-loved folk classics.

Seven performances are already planned for March and April, with tickets on sale for between $25 — $33 (60 — 80 Georgian Lari).
