Meet the artist fusing Russian wildlife with Soviet Constructivism

Russian artist Irina Razumovskaya embraces the whimsical beauty of decaying post-Soviet structures.

Bold, constructivist shapes are softened by neglect and layers of peeling paint, creating an effect similar to the bark of the Russian birch tree.

“I come to these forms through research on various cultures and always bear in mind their reflection on my own reality, my everyday life. This way every artwork has a personal meaning for me,” says Razumovskaya. “For the viewer, however, I prefer the experience to be more ambiguous and open to various interpretations and possibilities.”
