Celebrated Russian director Andrey Zvyagintsev is creating a new television series for Paramount in the studio’s first ever Russian-language production.
Producer Alexander Rodnyansky told Russia’s Vedimosti newspaper that the psychological thriller would expand on an unexplored side plot from one of Zvyagintsev’s films.
“Thanks to the international success of films such as Leviathan and Loveless, we’ve received a lot of offers regarding possible television shows from major studios,” Rodnyansky told Vedomosti. “Paramount was the first to offer us the creative freedom we needed and to agree to shoot in Russian, which is a key condition for Zvyagintsev.”
Zvyagintsev will direct the first two episodes of the ten-part series, although a director for the remaining episodes is yet to be confirmed.
