Maxim Zhestkov’s digital-era art hinges on a delicate balance between technology and nature.

The Moscow artist’s latest work, Volumes, uses billions of computer-generated particles to recreate patterns from the natural world, a pulsating, rippling mass reminiscent of a wave or gust of wind.

Zhestkov treats each grain as an autonomous being, and each frame as a new digital sculpture.

“They dance, play and communicate with each other in an eternal hypnotic ballet governed by the invisible wind of fate,” he says.
