One of Russia’s most popular children’s books is set to be made into a new animated series with a major US studio.

Cartoon powerhouse Frederator Studios snapped up the rights to Anna StarobinetsCatlantis.

The New York-based studio, which was founded in 1998 by former Hanna-Barbera president Fred Seibert, is behind hits such as Adventure Time and Nickeloden’s Fairly Odd Parents.

Released in 2015, the epic story follows Baguette, a lazy, modern day house cat forced to travel back in time and bring peace to the mythical city of Catlantis.

“Anna’s work has not only an enchanting story with wonderful charm, but also, by good luck, cats,” said Eric Homan, Frederator Studios’ vice-president of development. “We’re working hard to build a crack team to make the cartoon adaption of Catlantis just as special.”
