Meet the New East artists exploring cinema and photography for Photo London 2018

15 May 2018

A London gallery will be showcasing the best in photography from across the New East as part of the UK capital’s biggest photo fair.

The White Space Gallery will be unveiling a new exhibition of seven visual artists from across Russia, Ukraine and Lithuania at this year’s Photo London, including work from celebrated film director Andrey Tarkovsky and Lithuanian photographer Antanas Sutkus.

The gallery will be shwowing Olga Tobreluts and Vita Buivid at their Photo London booth for the first time, following a push to diversify their portfolio. Like Tarkovsky, many also draw on the intertwining strands of photography and cinema, exploring staging and performance throughout their work.

“The booth will be full of colour, movement and stage-based elements,” gallery founder Anya Stonelake told The Calvert Journal. “[It] has a cinema-based storyline with obvious references to the Russian avant-garde and Soviet and post-Soviet history.”

Photo London will take place at Somerset House from 17 May — 20 May. For more information, click here.
