Discover the Lithuanian artist embroidering solid metal

11 May 2018

Armed with a needle and thread, Lithuanian artist Severija Inčirauskaitė-Kriaunevičienė transforms everyday objects into post-war kitsch.

The Vilnius-based artist and lecturer finds neglected pieces of rusty metal — including buckets, shell casing, and even car doors —and embroiders them with flowing flower patterns that she takes from old magazines.

Away from the cosy confines of the home, these familiar decorations turn simple craft into a piece of art — changing and challenging the cold, fuctional items they decorate.
