Step inside the surreal mind of Russia’s Harry Nuriev

Rendered in hues of on-trend ultra-violet, the latest collection from Russian designer Harry Nuriev plays his own brand of childlike surrealism against iconic 20th century designs.

Inspired by a plastic replica of Pedro Friedeberg’s iconic hand chair that Nuriev found dumped outside his New York apartment, the capsule embraces a cartoonish take on human anatomy, with wardrobes and hangers — and lights inspired by Serge Mouille’s classic spider lamps — styled from human hands.

The designs make up a new home and clothing collaboration between Nuriev’s Crosby Studios and New York-based label Opening Ceremony, marking the company’s first foray into ceramics, apparel and small home goods, pulled together with broad pastel brush strokes.

After opening with a two-part installation at Opening Ceremony’s flagship store on 15 May, the collection will appear at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair, open to the public from 20 May to 23 May.
