The Corridor

Sharunas Bartas atmospheric essay about life in a claustrophobic apartment block is a film locked in a constant state of depression, a harrowing yet profoundly moving portrait of desperation. Beautifully shot in striking monochrome and articulated solely through violent motifs and the vacant stare of a building’s voiceless inhabitants. The interior of this dilapidated apartment block becomes a metaphor for a nation, an existential concrete prison for the collective psyche locked in a state of apprehension amidst their new-found ‘freedom’. The film’s fragmented narrative, caught between dreams and memory, symbolises the links between Lithuania's past and present, the long, bleak hallways of corridor leading to an uncertain future.
