Documentary photographer Misha Pedan was born and raised in Kharkiv, Ukraine. Before moving to Sweden in 1990, where he is currently based, Pedan photographed his daily commute on the city metro which he then published as the photo book, M. In these animated black and white portraits, people are mostly unaware of the camera. Though the photographs hark back to the Soviet era, they have a timeless quality — there's something familiar about the fatigued but dreamy expressions of the passengers. If it wasn’t for the grainy film and 1980s hairstyles, the photos could have been taken today.
