ZIP Group is made up of Eldar Ganeev, Evgeny Rimkevich, Vasily and Stepan Subbotin, who are probably the most internationally recognisable artists ever to come from Krasnodar. The group takes its name from a former factory that produced measuring devices, and where the artists first started working together in 2009. For their first project, The Living Nook (2009) they transformed one of the factory’s rooms into a meeting and recreational space for the imagined workers of a long-derelict facility. Projects that have followed are similarly concerned with space and setting. The artists work to erase the boundaries between past and present, to complicate the linear forward-thrust of time and history.
