Electronic musicians back Russian LGBT rights with new album

New collective LGBT Rights for Russia Now will release a fundraising compilation of house and techno artists tomorrow including Dutch electronic musician Legowelt and Kansas producer Heruco S. The money raised will go towards GayRussia, the group that organises Moscow’s Pride Parade and campaigns for gay rights in the country. You can access the 24 tracks on the organisation’s BandCamp page on 28 August and download the entire album for a donation of €8 or more (£6.70).

It is hoped the album will raise awareness about the plight of the LGBT community in Russia, which is under increasing pressure following the passage of a federal law banning “homosexual propaganda” in June. The law has sparked criticism in the west with high-profile individuals such as British actor Stephen Fry calling for a boycott of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi and a growing number of cultural figures turning down invitations to visit Russia for work purposes.
