Photo exhibition transforms everyday objects into art

11 September 2013

More than 80 photographs by artist Vadim Gushchin will go on show at the Lumiere Brothers Centre for Photography today, in an exhibition spanning more than a decade of his work. The show, Object. Function. Image, examines discourses around the everyday object. Clean and neat in composition, the images show the artist’s preference for linear shapes and a predominantly black, white and red colour palette. By isolating objects from their everyday context, Novosibirsk-born, Moscow-based Gushchin elevates items such as sheets of paper, plastic knives and cups to works of art. Gushchin’s work has been exhibited around the world at galleries and festivals in both the US and Denmark. The show runs at the Lumiere Brothers Centre for Photography 11-29 September.
