More cinema tickets were sold in Russia than anywhere in Europe, excluding France, in 2013, according to new statistics from the European Audiovisual Observatory. While most of Europe experienced flagging admission figures, Russia recorded double-digit growth, 10.5%. This means Russia has overtaken the UK as the second largest European market in terms of admissions. Overall in the EU, attendance fell by 4.1% to 908 million tickets sold, the second lowest level of sales since 2000. Ticket sales fell in Spain, France, the UK and Germany.
