Venice’s historic Palazzo delle Zattere will soon be transformed into an exhibition space for Russian contemporary art foundation V-A-C. Announced last week, the new space is set to open its doors during the opening of the 56th Venice Biennale of Contemporary Art in May this year. Its first exhibition project, to open in 2016 to coincide with the Venice Architecture Biennale, will exhibit work from Katerina Chuchalina.

Opened in 2009, the V-A-C foundation has taken on a 18-year lease of the four-storey building on the condition that it will undertake reconstruction and renovations on the site. For the last five years, the foundation rented a space in Venice’s Casa dei Tre Oci museum.

The new space, which will focus on educational activities, will also feature a bookshop, restaurant and lodgings for young international artists and curators.
