Three photographers from the new east chosen for Foam Talent 2015

19 June 2015

Russian photographers Mariam Medvedeva and Danila Tkachenko and Hungarian photographer Marton Perlaki are among 21 finalists of influential photography contest Foam Talent hosted by Amsterdam-based organisation Foam.

The winning projects were chosen by a panel of experts from over a thousand submissions. Mariam Medvedeva’s series When you are dead, the pose you take doesn’t matter anymore is a memento mori exploring the effect of prescribed codes of human behaviour on the emotional relationship with the concept of death. Danila Tkachenko’s project Restricted Areas is compiled from his documentation of abandoned locations which once had great importance for scientific progress led by utopian ideology. Martin Perlaki’s series Bird Bald Book Bubble Bucket Brick Potato is an exercise of juxtaposition inviting unexpected paths of interpretation.

The Foam Magazine Talent Issue will be published at the end of August and will be officially presented at Unseen Photo Fair in Amsterdam (18-20 September 2015), and the supporting exhibition will later be touring in Paris and Brussels.
