New web project lets you take a virtual tour of Norilsk

Russian journalist and television presenter Alexey Pivovarov has launched Norilskfilm, a site that allows you to take a virtual tour of the Siberian city, the northernmost large city in the world, and see it through the eyes of its locals, during both the summer and winter.

Viewers can explore the history of Norilsk using an interactive timeline or navigate the city as it appears today, visiting its plants and mines. The site offers a range of unusual perspectives of the city through a series of videos created especially for the project and indespersed throughout the virtual tour: experience a quarry explosion, for example, or watch a brass-band performance in a furnace, as seen below. Alongside videos, the site also features photos of Norilsk via the Instagram accounts of its residents.
